The trucking industry tends to present its drivers as serious professionals – some of the best motorists on the road. However, reality paints a very different picture – and we constantly hear stories about reckless truckers in Georgia causing serious, life-altering accidents. Why do truckers seem so dangerous in the modern era? A recent crash in Georgia shows just how negligent these so-called “professional drivers” can be.
Gwinnett County Trucking Accident Makes Headlines
In February of 2025, a Gwinnett County trucker made headlines after he struck a vehicle and pushed it through two intersections. The entire incident was caught on camera, and the collision soon went viral. Police say the crash occurred on the I-85 overpass on Pleasant Hill Road.
The initial crash was captured by a traffic camera, but it is difficult to determine how the collision occurred. It looks as if the trucker switched lanes suddenly, catching the tail of a smaller sedan and pushing the vehicle into its path. For whatever reason, the trucker did not slam on the brakes despite the vehicle being directly in its path. Instead, the trucker seems to continue driving as if everything is normal – pushing the sedan along in a horizontal position.
After several hundred meters, the trucker finally slows down and allows the terrified occupant to get to safety. One has to wonder what the trucker was thinking. Was this a case of road rage? Did the trucker genuinely not realize that a sedan was stuck right in front of his vehicle? Was he distracted or impaired by drugs?
Whatever the case may be, the truck driver fled the scene after the sedan finally came to a rest. He then turned himself in, facing numerous criminal charges as a result of this incident. These include fleeing the scene of an accident, changing lanes improperly, reckless driving, and reckless conduct. Judging by the fact that he was cited for an improper lane change, it is safe to say that the trucker caused the initial collision.
Fortunately, the driver of the sedan was completely unharmed. However, this situation could have been much worse. Imagine if the sedan had gone under the wheels of the truck. The vehicle – and its occupant – would have been completely crushed. In this situation, the trucker would likely face homicide charges – and this could also lead to a wrongful death lawsuit.
Why are Truckers Becoming So Reckless?
Are truckers really becoming more reckless in Georgia, or are things normally this bad? It is safe to say that serious truck accidents in Georgia are nothing new. In addition, truckers have been exhibiting serious road rage since they first took to the roads many decades ago.
That being said, recent changes in the trucking industry could be exacerbating this issue. This industry has been struggling with a trucker shortage for many years now, and this is causing companies to hire candidates that they normally would not have considered. Some of these truckers may be barely qualified, and some might have clear road rage issues. New regulations also allow trucking companies to hire teenagers for the first time.
